About Ether.fi

ETHFI governs Ether.fi, a non-custodial liquid restaking protocol built on Ethereum. Users stake ETH and receive eETH (or the non-rebasing weETH BubbleLayer also tracks separately), which stays liquid for use across DeFi while the underlying ETH earns both staking rewards and additional restaking rewards through EigenLayer — with users keeping control of their own keys throughout. ether.fi's distinguishing choice is custody: stakers keep control of their withdrawal keys rather than handing them to the protocol, which addresses a specific criticism of pooled staking. It also leans heavily into restaking, routing staked ETH into services that pay additional rewards. ETHFI is the governance token for that protocol, not the yield-bearing asset itself. On this map it sits with staking-related tokens, and its price has tended to move with sentiment around restaking as a category rather than with ETH directly.

Quick answers
What is non-custodial staking here?

Stakers retain control of withdrawal credentials rather than transferring them to the protocol, which reduces the risk of funds being inaccessible if the operator fails.

What is ETHFI for?

Governance of the protocol and its parameters. The yield-bearing position is represented by the protocol's staking tokens, not by ETHFI.

Why does it move with restaking sentiment?

Because a significant part of the protocol's growth and fee base comes from restaking, so its outlook tracks that category's health.

Is restaking riskier than plain staking?

It adds slashing conditions from the additional services being secured, on top of Ethereum's own. More yield, more conditions under which collateral can be lost.
