ARB governs Arbitrum, one of the largest Ethereum layer-2 rollups by activity. Arbitrum bundles many transactions off-chain and posts a single compressed proof back to Ethereum, cutting fees sharply while inheriting Ethereum's security. ARB holders vote on Arbitrum DAO proposals covering protocol upgrades, treasury spending and how the network's own layer-2 ecosystem grows. Arbitrum is an optimistic rollup: transactions execute off Ethereum, results are posted back, and anyone can challenge an invalid result during a dispute window. That window is why withdrawals to Ethereum take days rather than minutes, and it is the main practical trade-off users meet. It has consistently held one of the largest shares of value locked among rollups, and its ecosystem skews towards DeFi and perpetual-futures venues. On this map ARB usually moves with the Layer 2 group and, more broadly, with Ethereum — when ETH is weak, rollup tokens have rarely been strong.
Why do withdrawals from Arbitrum take days?
Optimistic rollups assume results are valid but allow a challenge period during which anyone can dispute them. Withdrawals wait out that window unless a third-party bridge fronts the funds.
What is ARB used for?
It is a governance token for the Arbitrum DAO, which controls protocol parameters and treasury decisions. Transaction fees on the network are paid in ETH.
Does ARB capture the network's fees?
Not directly. Fees are paid in ETH, and the relationship between network revenue and token value is a governance question rather than an automatic mechanism.
Why do Layer 2 tokens move with Ethereum?
Their activity settles to Ethereum and their users are largely the same users. When demand for Ethereum block space and ETH itself falls, rollup activity and token prices have generally followed.
Market cap decides how big a bubble is drawn, so rank is what places ARB on the map relative to the rest of its sector.
