KAS secures Kaspa, a proof-of-work Layer-1 built on GHOSTDAG, a protocol that lets multiple blocks mined around the same time coexist and get ordered afterward instead of discarding all but one. This lets Kaspa process far more blocks per second than typical proof-of-work chains like Bitcoin while keeping the same core security model, aiming for near-instant confirmation limited mainly by network latency rather than block time. Kaspa is proof-of-work, but instead of discarding blocks that are mined at the same time it keeps them and orders them in a directed acyclic graph, which lets it produce blocks far faster than a chain that must throw away competing work. That gives it fast confirmations while keeping mining as the security model, and it has attracted a mining community rather than a DeFi ecosystem — there is little built on top of it. On a bubble map that matters: KAS trades on its own narrative and on mining economics, so its colour often diverges from the smart-contract chains sitting near it by market cap.
What is a blockDAG?
A structure that keeps blocks produced in parallel instead of orphaning them, then orders them afterwards. It allows a much higher block rate than a single-chain design while still using proof of work.
Does Kaspa have smart contracts?
Its ecosystem is far smaller than that of general-purpose smart-contract chains, and it has historically been used mainly as a fast proof-of-work payment network rather than an application platform.
Is Kaspa mined?
Yes. It uses proof of work, so new coins are issued to miners, unlike the proof-of-stake chains that make up most of the Layer 1 group on this map.
Why does KAS sometimes move independently?
Its holder base and drivers differ from those of smart-contract platforms. Mining economics and its own community narrative influence it more than general DeFi activity does.
Market cap decides how big a bubble is drawn, so rank is what places KAS on the map relative to the rest of its sector.
